unknown waterplant from pond

    Trying to identify this water plant anyone know? found in Sturbridge MA, Pond

    @Marcella good morning and welcome to the forum.
    Occasionally a chunk of rhizome will break off of a water lily and wash up . The appearance can be reminiscent of an octopus tenticle, so IMO this is what you are seeing.

    It looks rather sinister doesn't it? If I were you, I'd let it be long enough for it to grow leaves and, possibly, flowers.

    Hi , thank you, this plant got me on this forum lol, So your saying its from the waterlily plant, and it was a chunk from one called a rhizone? it was firmly planted in the water in the soil in the pond and had lots tenacles hanging from it. yes it looked like a ocotopus really strange plant

    haa, yes indeed looked like some new plant disease from far far away alien looking

    the shapes on the rhizome were all different shapes it did not look quite the same as some other rhizomes pic pattern they looked a bit different they were more the same size

    @Marcella Good morning. The one in the photo was bloated from decay. That is why it was so very different to the ones that were attached and under the soil on the water.
    Very alien like !!!! Lol.
