There is a young fir tree growing in my backyard but it isn't a Douglas fir - just wondering if it is grand fir? The needles are flat and just grow on opposite sides of the stem rather than all around. Any ideas?
That's normal for Douglas-fir for the needles to be spread flatter on shaded foliage like this. If it was in full sun, the leaves would be more all-round the shoot as you expected.
