Hi, This was found in southern Nevada, in a disturbed area around water. Not quite sure what it is, I've never seen it. The remnant phyllaries are quite small (so it's something in Asteraceae). Leaves are fragrant and bristly, tomentose/woolly on new stems. Old stem is shredding. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!
Doesn't look like Perovskia . Perovskia leaves are not prickly, rather with rounded tips: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Perovskia_atriplicifolia_C.jpg http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Lamiaceae/Perovskia_atriplicifolia.html
No, I'm pretty sure it's an Asteraceae because of the phyllaries. I didn't actually collect this, it was given to me to identify. But it looks like it is just leafing out for the spring, so no flowers just yet. I just posted another unknown shrub with flowers though...
