I found a seedling growing in the grass near my home, but can't tell what kind of plant it came from (wasn't found underneath any particular tree or shrub, but in the general vicinity of some maples and a few other trees and small shrubs I don't know the name of.). There were quite a few other seedlings in the same patch of grass, but I moved this particular one to a pot to prevent it from becoming lawnmower fodder in the coming weeks.

The seed leaves remind me of some of the maple seedling pictures I've seen in the Acer forum, and there are a few large maple street trees nearby, but it could be anything really. (not an expert on plants, but I do have some enthusiasm!)

I'd appreciate it if anyone could identify this plant for me!

Definitely a maple. Most likely a seedling of one of the variegated Acer pseudoplatanus cultivars.
