I'm not familiar with those pods by the looks in your photos.

Which traditions use these? Where did you obtain them? What are they supposed to do, or heal?

I've gotten mixes of herbs, pods, fungi, woody chips and other stuff from Asian food stores, usually Viet Namese, but occasionally owned by Koreans and one by a Tamil couple. Some of these mixes would be for teas, some for soups, and at least one that was to be used in compounding something else. Can't recall what, so apparently not a memory stimulating compound.

From the list of ingredients one can sometimes find, I'd figure out what each piece most likely was. I've consulted Seminole, Chinese, Viet Namese and Ethiopian acquaintances to further identify the parts. On several occasions, I grew the unknown seeds. I was very haphazard about it: no photos or record-keeping, only curiosity.

Karkady or roselle, both Hibiscus sabdariffa, produce a red tea and some say it's from the pods, but it is actually from the calyxes. I don't think that's what you have, but I've never grown it or used it, other than the one time I learned it triggered a migraine (and that was in a tea bag). Rooibos makes that color red, but no pods that I can tell. Also an allergen for me.

Have you tried germinating the seeds? Depending on the treatment of them, they may sprout.
