This plant was uprooted from a small skunk cabbage and cattail wetland at the tail end of an ephemeral drainage just inland of Ladysmith on Vancouver Island. The stalk and leaves are hairless with a slightly rubbery texture. I would assume it is not native to the island as I can't say I have come across it before.

Odd-looking thing! Sorry, not sure what it is; possibly in the family Amaranthaceae?

Might be something in the carrot family.
