My son ate a plum from a friend's house and plant the seed more than 10 years ago. The seed becomes a tall tree with abundant red-purple leaves at this time of the year. It has tiny white flowers in the winter but never form into plums. I live somewhere near Pinole in California. What should I do so to so it produce plums.
Some purpleleaf plums are not fruitful. Purple leaves are their main distinctive feature. However, your seedling could also have a pollination problem, as you suspect. Another plum tree may be needed to cross with it. Unfortunately, since it is an unnamed seedling it is impossible to know which particular named variety might cross with it.
