so I'm kind of new to the whole gardening thing and I didn't even know this would grow in such cercumstances. I throw extra peices from vegetables and fruits over my back deck and I think something i previously threw is growing now. Its not very moist soil and not many things grow in that spot because its so dry and doesnt get alot of shade at all. The plant is green with huge leaves that are fuzzy and it kind of smells a bit like a tomato plant, but its not because it doesnt look like one at all. The flowers are yellow with black in the center of them and when the flowers die it forms a pod that is hollow and kind of looks like a balloon. Inside the pod is another drark green pod filled with tiny white seeds that kind of look like mini bell pepper seeds. Its not fully ripe yet but i dont really think its a weed mainly becuase i pulled one of the plants out thinking it was a weed and the roots were growing out not one straight thick root like most other weeds. I would really like to know what this plant is if anyone has any suggestions as to what it is that would be awesome. Thanks.

sound like chinese lantern. without a pic, can't be sure.

it's a weed. some don't consider it so...it freely self-seeds and becomes invasive quite easily and, in my mind, that's a weed. it shows up in new spots each year in my yard...and i always make sure to pull them up before they flower...so, the new ones are 'gifts' from the birds.
