Thank you so much! I have had this plant for about nine years, never knowing the name of it. I put it outside in the summer and it just thrives beautifully.

Mine grow outside in the garden and have a white flower. I never knew their name and inherited them as pot plants from work. They were never happy inside so out they went and they look great as part of the pond planting in a sheltered spot.

Headed for 42 C today yuk!

Whether you can grow Fatsia japonica outdoors in Canada depends on where you are. Around Vancouver, no problem. The rest of Canada, no chance.

Ah, Orangeville, Ontario. Sorry, it'll have to stay indoors in the winter there.

Ouch! Maybe time to remove that "[cool temperate]" from your location tag??

Don't worry around here we are known for 4 weather types in one day. 2 days ago we went to 38.something with in 5 minutes it dropped 10 degrees and then went down to 20 C in about another half an hour. Am watching the temp at the moment and in about an hour and a half it has gone frm. 20 C to 33.5. I would not be suprised if it snows tomorrow if we get a lick of air from Antartica. Have seen snow on the mountains in Tasmania south of us in Middle Feb our high summer month. Today we are getting the hot inland lick of air straight off the desert. As long as the Monsoon glug from up north stays put I can handle it. Makes gardening interesting if nothing else. Today is not a good hanging basket day.
