    Hi there,
    New to this forum.

Ok the first plant is one that I bought at IKEA and was identified as a tropical plant... if anyone knows the name of it please let me know.

Also, I've had this plant since September ( 6 months) and I'm not really sure what's wrong with it...it's a Vriesea? And I'm doing what the tag tells me... but it looks like it's dying. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Kalanchoe for the unknown. Possibly K. blossfeldiana. The link is a google image search.

My luck with bromeliads has been poor. But if I remember rightly overwatering can be a problem. The object is to keep the soil moist but not soggy. This page suggests keeping the leaf rosette (bottom of the leaves where they form a natural cup) filled with boiled water that has been allowed to cool to lukewarm. Which is something I hadn't heard before.

I think the first plant is an Ardisia crispa or dentata it has just recently undergone name change. Likes some light, leaves will go pale in direct hot sun best grown in filtered sun/shade. Likes a good feed while growing if kept in pots. Moist but well drained soil.

So far I'm batting 0 this week. I think S.S. is correct in Ardisia crispa as I think I see a bit of the brown scale typical of A. crispa on the underside of one of the upper leafs on closer look.

I should also mention that A. crispus has alternate leaves as opposed to Kalanchoes opposite leaf. I guess I should look before I leap. :) Harry

do either of those pots have drainage ??.. they look like those decorative pots that do more harm than good ..if they dont have drainage then they need to be put in better pots..
