I found this plant on a sunny spot on tarmac football pitch in Morden, south of London. Any idea of its name? It produces buds which do not open into a flower but stay closed and spread dark brown microscopic ash like spores a bit like mushrooms do.

Thanks for your help in identifying it.

The foliage looks sedge-like, but the flower/seed-heads don't match.

I'd like to see it in flower, if you can return to it in the next couple of days. The foliage really reminds me of Tragopogon

Wow, that is close enough to make me go there and check again. I will go and take some better photos but I have been there recently and the sporous buds didn't turn into flowers yet.

    Thanks to all.
    Speak to you soon.
