Identification: Unknown plant, help please!

Hi,

My Mother was recently given a rather attractive flowering indoor plant as a gift. She lives in Queensland, Australia.

She sent me the attached photo, asking me what I thought it was. I am stumped, so I am hoping some clever person here can help me (us) out.

Any ideas?
