This tenacious little plant has popped up in the rock borders around our house (in Edmonton). It has quite pretty little flowers and seems to spread with ground runners. I have no idea what it might be - the flowers look like a snapdragon, although the plant in the picture is only about 4 inches across (Scrophulariaceae?). Suspect it is not native Albertan as I can't find it in our wildflower guides. Any ideas?
Leaf shape looks more like Cymbalaria muralis (Ivy-leaved Toadflax) than C. pallida (Italian Toadflax): C. muralis: http://www.ukwildflowers.com/Web_pages/cymbalaria_muralis_ivy_leaved_toadflax.htm C. pallida: http://www.ukwildflowers.com/Web_pages/cymbalaria_pallida_italian_toadflax.htm
Definitely Cymbalaria muralis. Its one of may favorites. It often persists in old areas of Baltimore in unlikely places and it rarely if ever gets weedy. Look and see how the floral stems eventually curve downward to help self sow the seeds.
