Can someone help me identify this fungus? Is it poisonous? I found it growing under a tree in the mound of mulch and there were quite a few and they seem to appear out of nowhere. They look kind of like fingers (I've begun to call them zombie fingers). They are white on the bottom and get redder as you go to the top and it seems to secrete a mud-like liquid at the tip (which has a earthy odor). It is hollow inside and is fairly soft and light. Any help would greatly be appreciated!
Some kind of stink horn. These come up on the forums every so often, cause they are so weird looking. Here is one of the longer threads about them: http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=17049&highlight=stink+horn
I don't think they are poisonous to the touch. They generally stink, hence the common name. Apparently some consider them edible. http://www.wildmanstevebrill.com/Mushrooms.Folder/Stinkhorns.html
