unknown fruit

    Found this bush in Southern Maine, need help identifying it. New growth leaves and flowers are red. Fruit appears to be kiwi or fig like. Flower end of fruit is turban squash shaped. Fruit contains many immature white seeds.

    All I can think of is pomegranate.

    Could also be Feijoa or a Quince, but what that would be doing in Maine is beyond me. Pomegranate is probably correct.

    Yes: "found this bush" sounds like it was growing in the ground. But pineapple guava is a better match for the fruit. The "red flowers" must have been reference to the stamens.

    Yes this shrub was growing in my friends back yard,do pomegranate and guava grow and produce fruit in maine a neighbor said it was an edible citrus.
