My wife calls this a Japanese Bouganvillia, but I believe that is only a local name for this very unusual plant. The photo is very close to the actual size of the leaves and flowers. It does very well in the shade and being grown in the tropics, indicates to me that it is a tropical plant... Any ideas on what it's botannical and common names are?
Thanks to you both for the ID. Many of the plants in Tahiti were brought in by people who missed things from their places of origin. Some have been helpful and some have been disasterous. Such as the ordinary cattail, and the myconia. Both have started and proliferated in areas and are pushing out the native plants. The myconia seems to be by far the worst as it is displacing our forests.
