I've been trying to find out the common and/or scientific name(s) for this wildflower but haven't had any luck. I called it an anemone because it reminded me of the sea creature of the same name. Is there someone out there who has the real answer? If you know what this flower might be, please e-mail me at Steve@sierra-hikes.com Thanks!
Hello Steve, This is Geum triflorum, a member of the rose family. Its common names include old man's whiskers, prairie smoke, and three-flowered avens. Here's a photo I took of it in flower: Geum triflorum near Merritt, British Columbia A similar photo to yours on the USDA site: Geum triflorum USDA's Plant Profile for Geum triflorum Hope to visit Arizona someday.
And the follow-up email: Wow! You really came through quickly! Thank you so much for the information. There are a dozen people here in Tucson who can now relax and stop looking for the info. Steve
