Camellia...possibly 'Nuccio's Gem" I'm not sure if it is the same, but I had a camellia in my yard that looked just like your picture. It was called 'Nuccio's Gem'. It was a wonderful camellia with very nice pure white flowers.
there are quite a few white, formal-doubles and it could possibly be 'white-by-the-gate'. i have this one and it is a beauty. it blooms early (some are opening now) in my climate and many of the flowers are ruined by hard freezes. the petal form does not look right to me for the one suggested above.
