I purchased this plant from a grocery chain, and all the pot said was 10" tropical. I was just wondering if anyone knew what it may be?

Thanks a lot for the help

might be a banana. could also be an anthurium or philodendron or alocasia or colocasia. you might want to put another post in the 'aroid' section - some people only look at certain forums, so, they might miss it here.

It does resemble a banana, but I haven't been able to find any photos with red stems and green leaves.

Thanks for the info guys! Really helpful...researching a bit on banana cultivars, it seems my plant is definitely a Musa, perhaps 'Red Iholena'...although several seem to have the purlish shadings that mine does.

    much appreciated!

Yes, definitely a Musa. It may start looking tattered as a houseplant. If and when that happens over the fall and winter, plan on cutting it back severely. I don't know the size of your corm. It will sprout new growth pretty fast. The only thing to watch for when you do that is that the newest leaves may be trapped by layer upon layer of old petioles that form the trunk. Not much of a problem with such a little guy.

Yeah my first guess would have been a banana plant too:) I keep on meaning to get a hardy one to grow outside here.

Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii' seems more likely.
