Help! This tree in our yard seems to be diseased. I don't even know what kind of tree it is or what is happening to it. It does have white flowers in the spring.
I'm sorry nobody replied to your posting. How did the tree look this spring? I wonder if it's the kind of crab apple that always looks bad after the nice flowering season is finished.
it would help certainly to have close-up of leaf (leaves) flattened on a piece of paper or something with a ruler to show scale (as in inches) (obviously this is the time of year to pick a leaf or two given that it looks deciduous) does it bear fruit at any time of year? does it blossom at any time of year? (oh, I see OP says "spring") I wonder if the top part of the "graft" has died back and this is the root stock that took over yes the moss doesn't suggest the best health (i'm NOT a licensed arborist) - but we had old fruit trees (really old originals) on a rural property nr Vanc BC - and they made fruit (cherries, apples, pear) loyally each yr - and had some lichen but not the heavy green moss shown in these original poster's photos.
