Under White Pine and in forest...

    Can anyone help me ID this small flower? The stem so far is about 5 inches in height...the flower it'self is very small, about eraser head in size?...the leaves are a pale green...long and slender.
    Found in NE Kansas in a forest along the Missouri River and at a 'tree park'....under some White Pine trees.

    What an interesting plant.... never came across such a species of flowering plant!

    My thanks tipularia...looks like the Field Antennaria could be the flower here. Thanx for the genus!
    I remember last summer finding them in the woods but forgot to get images at the time? Glad I came across them again in their young stage. From what I remember and the other info I got they will 'puff' or explode once the weather gets warmer.
    Interesting to know they're related to sunflowers!
