I have a couple of Douglas fir trees in my north-facing front yard. I'm looking for fast growing trees/shrubs that would do well beneath the trees to add some texture and privacy. I'm thinking escallonia, rhodo, california lilac, japanese pieres...? I've attached a photo that shows the type of look I'm going for. I live in Victoria. Thanks for your help!
