This maple leaf does not fit the description for common maple species in its range (Georgia.) It has fine teeth along the margin and is reticulate. Can anyone identify this?

    Thanks in advance!

P.S.: Can anyone identify the fern from my last post?

    Leaf looks like Sweetgum, Liquidambar.

That's why you can't find it among descriptions of native maples.

Thanks! It would have been helpful to notice the spiked fruit... I assume the fern is very difficult to identify?
