Hi all, I've tried to identify this garden plant with some apps, with no success. I am in SW England and most of the apps don't seem to take location into account at all. The plant appears to be some type of rush, although we have no pond or body of water near us. I've been pulling them up for years but they return. We now have a cat and would like to ensure they are safe, so any help with identification will be appreciated.
Should be safe for the cat, I've never heard of any problem with sedges. I'd be inclined to let it be, just accept it as an attractive part of your local native wild flora. The seeds are popular with a lot of birds.
Many thanks, with the info you've provided I find its Carex pendula. I will indeed let it be, it's a nice ground cover for the cat to hide in :)
