Hi all, I recently bought a beautiful Umbrella tree (around 5-6ft) from the nursery about 3 weeks ago. It was extremely root bound and the roots were practically bursting out of the plastic container. I transplated it into a larger ceramic pot and have it in my family room. It gets medium to bright indirect sunlight. I've noticed every morning this past week that some leaves have fallen off and are lying on the floor. About 6-8 leaves fall off overnight and a few stems have fallen off. They are green and healthy looking. I am only watering once a week, making sure not to drown it so I don't think overwatering is the problem. Also, there is new green/purplish growth coming out of the top branches. Is this normal? Is it just adjusting to the new home? Thanks for any suggestions! Roanna
yes, it's still adjusting - to the new home (the new pot) and the new environment (your house) as well as the new watering schedule. water thoroughly and then let the soil dry down a few inches before watering again...a container large enough to hold the roots of a 5'-6' tree shouldn't need watering more often than every 2-3 weeks. you're seeing new growth and that's good.
