Can anyone identify this Unidentified Floating Object I found in a West Vancouver muncipality pond 10 days ago. I think it's botanical and not animal. Jelly like sac about five or six inches in length. Firm texture with what I can only describe as almost fluorescent green objects looking like empty green grape skins. A friend said frogs spawn but I did not think so. There was another such object, but I could not reach either. I managed to tap one with a twig and the jelly had a surprisingly firm texture. Any information will be gratefully received.

Sure looks like frog eggs to me.

Frog eggs tend to look more like little eyes, from my observations.

My suspicion is that this is a blue-green algae colony: see [WIKI]cyanobacteria[/WIKI] and read about colony-forming under "Form"

Gordo, thanks. I think you are right. My pic, I think, then shows the egg mass after the taddies have swum away, hence the green empty sacs. Well done, and thanks.

That looks like a winner, Daniel - especially since I would expect frogs to hatch much earlier in the year.
