Daniel, every time I visit, I see the blue flowers on the top of the screen. Am I wrong in thinking they are Scilla peruviana??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portuguese_Squill I was just wondering why these particular flowers were chosen as a logo for a Canadian University Botanical web site? Shouldn't it be something like Cornus nuttallii...the provincial flower of British Columbia? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Dogwood
Yes, Scilla peruviana. We're a garden, so I think it's fine if it isn't something native (and I think it was chosen by one of the designers). Our logo doesn't have all native species either!
Agree with S.s. Some time ago, when major changes were instituted here at the Forum, emphasis was placed upon the fact that this is a university-associated forum, and that native plants were a priority. So...yes, absolutely not a thing wrong with Scilla peruviana---but: Why not replace it with a depiction of one of these native plants? Better yet: a scene from UBC's own gardens. I like the idea of the photo being changed periodically, perhaps seasonally. Show the beauties of UBC's own residents at every glorious time of the year. How say you, Daniel?
