I'm trying to ID these for a client who had a bunch of trees cut on her property without permission. Most are large trees and straight forward, but these have me scratching my head. Thanks :)
How large are the leaves in the first tree? Has the look of a whitebeam (Sorbus) to me; if it is, the leaves would be around 7-10 cm long.
Thank you very much for the replies. If memory serves, the leaves were around 8cm. When I go back next week I'll be sure to check. My first visit focused mainly on the large trees.
The fourth photo in the top row clearly shows clusters of tiny brown seeds typical of H. discolor. I don't think that any Sorbus species has similar seeds/fruits.
Agree now - I'd not looked closely at this pic, concentrating more on the close-up leaf pics #3 and #5.
