I have two plants that need identifying.

The first single pic looks like a calla lily but I was told it was some type of banana.

The second 2 pics reminds me of a hydrangea but it does develop into a large tree-like shrub and the flower cluster doesn't seem as delicate as the hydrangea.

    Thanks.

The shrub is a golden elderberry.

    Terrific id's, guys. Thanks.
Canna/Calla ..I seem to confuse the two also.
I guess my friend may be generally correct in saying the "Canna" is a member of the banana family? To me the leaves look like a relative.

Canna belongs to the canna family and not the banana family.

    Interesting quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canna_(plant)

" Canna (or Canna lily, although not a true lily) is a genus of approximately twenty species of flowering plants.[1][2] The closest living relations to cannas are the other plant families of the order Zingiberales, that is the gingers, bananas, marantas, heliconias, strelitzias, etc "

Want me to make it say it's closely related to an orangutan? ;-) Not that I instantly doubt Wiki, but it's notoriously unreliable...

An orangutan.. will it stand still while I plant it in my garden?
Talk about an interest point -- would beat a Canna hands down!
