Found this on www.... "FUCHSIA PANICULATA Terminal lilac-like heads of fuchsia-pink male, female and hermaphrodite flowers, the flowers very similar to but a little smaller than Fuchsia arborescens."
Thank you both. From what I have just read, there has been unresolved confusion (among non-botanists at least) of characteristics in popular and scientific descriptions. In this case, what characteristics I can make out argue for F. arborescens, except for the serrated leaves which suggest paniculata. (I tried to look up what fuchsias are in the general area where I took the photo - a few years ago - but the SFBG search site is down right now). Maybe they have crossed...
I only suggested F. paniculata because I was linking to the SF Botanical Garden site where they claim to have a number in their collections.
SFBG...looks like they have both Fuchsia's there. Search SFBG Plant Collections Search SFBG Plant Collections Sorry......I entered the name and got list...but when I copied and pasted it here it doesn't work! You can try typing names in.
