Do you know what these fruits are? One looks like a currant berry (smaller) and came off a bush about 4 feet tall and the other (larger) came of a tree and looks like a crab apple.

    Thanx in advance!

Off hand I'd say your assessment is correct. Currrants grow like weeds here in Sweden and at a summer house yesterday we picked several. The apple fruit defintely looks like crab apple.

For confirmation of the ID, can you show us what the plants themselves look like? There are a number of little red berries that look quite like currants but which are far less edible.

The one on the left might be honeysuckle, those you would not want to eat. The large one does look like a crabapple and will therefore be edible, although perhaps strongly flavored or not fully ripe yet.

There are hundreds of kinds of crabapples, identified to variety by the characters of the leaves, flowers and fruits in combination where a given specimen does not belong to a common and easily recognized distinctive selection such as 'Dolgo'.

Yes you could be right about the honeysuckle, they do have that sort of translucent see thru look to them as well. Even the gray green tiny flowering chaparral honeysuckle in the mountains of So-Cal would turn out fairly large fruits that look even like the pics above. Reason I went with current also was the shiny light reflection on the upper fruit, since any dull nonedible berry I've known never had that reflection. Tho California Holly(Toyon) does have a fruit that is edible, but has a texture and bland taste much like Pyracantha berries.

On the larger fruit, at first glance it almost has the appearance of a small fruit of a type guava bush folks plant in their yards in San Diego. But I opted for crabapple.
