We are considering digging an 8' tsuga mertensiana for a customer to use as a live Christmas tree before transplanting it to her garden. We have advised the ususal procedure of gradually acclimatising the tree on the way in and out, and a very short stay indoors. I am concerned that this will be too stressful on a newly dug tree.

    Has anyone tried this?

I'd expect trouble. For starters, it's a hemlock.

I agree with Ron, I'd expect its chances of survival to be very low
