I am trying to source Lagerstroemia indica 'Lavender Dwarf' from a nursery in the Pacific Northwest. I am located in the Seattle, Washington area. Any sage advice would be appreciated.
Many kinds of these with local outlets stocking at any one time only a tiny percentage of what has been named and introduced - that time being summer or early fall, when these are in season here. Not all selections of this hot climate tree are successful under our conditions, you should try to find out if this cultivar is likely to pan out if you do not already have indications it will (such as seeing it growing and blooming in a local planting). Usually a south wall is required for regular flowering, which may not commence until September in this climate. Some specimens do not flower much here even in a warm spot. There is an assortment of different kinds planted in part of the parking at the Center for Urban Horticulture. There these are grouped in island beds surrounded by nice hot asphalt. Visiting at flowering time and noting which ones appear to be making a good showing, looking for the same kind(s) from commerical sources (here or elsewhere) could be a smart way to go about it.
