I acquired this plant as a cutting some 45 years ago. It has a fleshy square stem that turns quite woody with age, the leaves, when in growth mode, are ivy like and it produces ivy like tendrils. It produces a small red berry like fruit and can be propagated by cuttings. It will also sprout roots from a stem laying on the ground. I am including a picture of a cutting. UncleMike
First of all, WELCOME to the fourm! WOW 45 years old. It almost looks like Dragon Fruit, but the berries throw me off....
I tried to add a pic of some of the "Old growth" but I guess I'm too "young" in the forum and I guess my up load is limited. Thanks for the welcome by the way UncleMike
ahh, that's it! thanks, lila!! saw this last night and i knew i knew what it was - just couldn't get the name to come up! the discoloration on the old growth is called 'corking' and that's a perfectly normal occurance for this plant.
Thank you Lila, I had a romboidsomthing name stuck in the back of my mind. Based on what you said I googled and found a great site http://plantsarethestrangestpeople.blogspot.com/2008/08/infomercial-pitchman-cissus.html although most returns were about the body building aspects and other wonder cures associated with it. This all started when I wanted to give a neighbor a cutting and couldn't remember the name. thanks again for the fast return. UncleMike
