Can some help identify this? In the uk, never seen it flower. The foliage has only just started to come through after looking like a dead stump all winter.

Just need to know if its a weed as we chopped down something last year and then found out a garden centre wanted a £100 quid for what we'd thought was a weed . Oops! Thanks for any help anyone can offer in advance :)

I have looked this up and it looks very similar to another that is in the garden covered in purple conical clusters of little flowers. I've never seen this one with a flower on it though, also, silly question but is this a 'good' plant to have? Thanks for your reply Ron B :)

Marvellous! Just didn't know if it was a bit of a nightmare to keep, it's already starting to get very busy so will just have to wait to the flowers to the butterflies to flutter by. Thanks guys
