I've just moved into a home with a very large fruit tree. The gentleman who lived here said it was a pear tree, but I can't find anything online that matches it. The bark and the branches are quite gnarly and the leaves are only 2inches oval with a small point at the tip and finely serrated edges. The tree is a good 20 - 30 feet tall. I think it may be an apple tree not a pear tree, but now that it is past it's harvest I'm unable to identify the fruit. I'm quite excited about the prospect of having a fruit tree of my own, however, without knowing what it is I can't prepare for harvest or even know if they are good for eating. Any help would be a grace.

    Could also be a plum.

Are there any fruit remains on the ground, e.g. plum stones?

not that I can see. there are too many leaves from surrounding trees. The previous tennant was sure they were pears, which is why I thought maybe an apple, maybe a pear.... He grew his own spices so I have to think he's not completely ignorant, but possibly mistaken. The closest I've found is the crab apple, the leaves are similar, just healthier, so I would think the photo was taken in seasonal prime...

Why not to trust the previous tenant? It looks like a pear to me.
