i was thinking about buying Tropicana black to put in my garden but i would have to take it out every fall and store it. So i was thinking about making it a house plant and keep it outdoors in the summer where it can get lots of sun and bring in doors when the temperatures get down there. Does anyone have a tips for growing indoors like how big of a Pot and would i have to trim it down and how often and what would be the best way to do this or if anyone knows where to find a useful link on caring for this plant indoors would be wonderful. I live in western Pennsylvania if its helpful

It's absolutely possible to do this, and the size of your corms at the end of the season will give you an indication of the size of pot to use - get something that will give them about 3" of space on all sides of the planted material - this gives them room to pup and expand. The only time Cannas of any kind should be trimmed back to the soil is after blooming - the entire stalk is dying at that point, and removing it will give the corms more energy to produce new stalks.

Once indoors, keep a close eye out for spider-mites, as they're the biggest insect challenge to any member of the Zingiberaceae indoors. Using a humidifier close to the plants, or misting daily, is a good preventative measure. Fertilize less in the winter than you would in the summer, to give the plants a rest period, and they'll stay happy and healthy until the ground thaws again.
