I live in a new home in northern N.J. and I have several holley trees of different varieties that have grown to gigantic proportions (10-12 ft high and wide). They seem to be very healthy!

I need to either trim a LOT off of them or remove them entirely. There's no room to navigate in my new yard!

The problem is, the leaves only exist on the "outside" of the trees and if I trim more than a couple of inches from the end of the branches there will be nothing left but bare branches.

I was thinking that (at a minimum) I could trim off the top couple of feet from each tree.

How much can I trim from them without killing them?

    Thanks,

Wait until next spring, then cut as far back as you need to. Hollies sprout from severe cuts, can even be used for tightly clipped hedges.
