I have an unknown cactus/succulent that developed brown discolorations along the ribs and completely across all the growing tips. This plant was super healthy and growing well a number of years back, and I made the mistake of chopping off and re-rooting the top. After that it developed the brown and completely ceased growing. It has remained exactly like this unchanged for many years. It's not dying, but it refuses to show any new growth. Does anybody know what happened, and if there is a cure to get it growing again?

Is this the re-rooted top or the original plant?

The re-rooted top. The bottom was given away years ago.

An it has grown new roots?
Did the brown marks appear shortly after it was cut off?
Has it been exposed to sunlight?

Yes, it rooted successfully years ago. I don't remember how long after it was cut that the brown marks appeared, it was too long ago. Lighting conditions have varied over the years due to a move and I don't recall exactly if it had some direct sun or was under grow lights initially, however I would have kept it in the same spot after cutting it as before so the brown spots wouldn't seem to be caused by any change in lighting.
