Tree with purple blossoms

    What is this tree? It is on the edge of the woods. The edge is South facing and very wet. It is growing with some old Viburnums and Walnut trees in zone 5 in Ohio, USA.

    I should have known that one. I never paid attention to the spring flowers on them before this year. My husband and I were strolling around after an afternoon walk and noticed them. They are so cute. Maybe we will try tasting one this year. :-)

    Yes, the "flower" in the second shot is an unfolding hickory bud and shoot.
