Is it this tree? Vancouver, British Columbia - Google Maps Seeing those white flowers changes my answer. Now I think maybe Styrax obassia.
If you go to Google Maps and put it Tea Swamp Park, it will tell you exactly (or at least it tells me, though I already know it, but maybe it doesn't work as well from outside of Vancouver), and you can see the plants in the park on street view. It's usually posted every year in the VCBF forums for its early-blooming 'Whitcomb' cherries.

My cherry comment was only about the park, not about the tree in your posting. What I have quoted here, which seems to have got lost among all these other postings, is my query in posting #4 about the tree in question, and if it's that tree shown in my link, I have suggested Styrax obassia.
