Walking around Lost Lagoon and saw this tree with a unusual seed/nut (I think), almost looks like a lychee nut. Anyone have any idea what species it is.
Cornus kousa, dogwood. http://stanleyparkecology.ca/wp-con...namental-Plant-Inventory-for-Stanley-Park.pdf
Well, different species. The provincial flower is Cornus nuttallii. The fruits are a little different. See Wildflowers Found in Oregon - Pacific Dogwood Fruit. @Eric La Fountaine, thanks for that list. Now if they only had them mapped!
Still close enough that I should have known lol. Yes that would be nice if they mapped out the trees, would make for a nice project.
Just to add, Cornus kousa fruit is edible, and can be delicious. Note that C. nuttallii fruit is NOT edible, though.
Thanks, Michael. I did not know that, only remembered that dogwood fruits are edible. I have to amend my memory on that.
