Could someone please tell me what type of tree this is (see photo attached)? There are several planted along the False Creek seawall north side.
Eric nailed it. I chased this one down last summer - only one I could find in the literature with a truncated leaf apex. Really distinctive. There are a few of these planted as street trees in Palo Alto. The flower is wonderful, but alas, very high off the ground in their prime.
Just for completeness, there is a second very similar species, Liriodendron chinense, from China. But it is very rare in cultivation outside of China, not something you will normally find outside of a larger botanical garden.
