This tree is on my property and it looks to me like some kind of upright willow but even the arborist I hired to trim it did not know what it was. My house was built in the early 1920's and I think many of the trees were planted then. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Fraxinus angustifolia. Maybe the popular cultivar 'Raywood'.

I think it's more likely Zelkova than Fraxinus angustfolia "Raywood". The latter is "medium height" and mine is Huge!

    Zelkova doesn't have compound leaves.

Caucasian ash prone to breakage here, where a popular planting on a Seattle street is starting to be replaced with white ash. Have an arborist who knows enough to recognize a tree like this look at it with a view to cabling it, before it splits apart some year. I would have spent the money on that, instead of cutting part of it away.

It may be! The reason I had it trimmed was because a large branch about 15 feet long and at least 15 inches around fell from the tree about five minutes after I was mowing under it. The major trimming was done long before I bought the property. I can't find any info on Caucasian Ash on the net. It's on the edge of my property so I don't know if cabling would work but I'll look into it. Thanks Ron B and Alex, Michael and David for your helpful responses.
