I have very tall trees in my yard in Agassiz B.C. that a neighbour (who also has several) told me were acacias. I have searched many books and the web but have found no information about acacia trees in B.C. These trees are thorny and seem to shoot up from underground runners. I have tried digging up small trees and transplanting them to other parts of my yard with no success. Can you help me identify these trees and find more info.

Needs a photo to be certain, though I'd agree Robinia pseudoacacia is likely.

Thank you. I have found photos on the web and my trees do seem to be Robinia pseudoacacia 'Frisia'. Difficult to get a good photo as they are so tall.

One of the other common names for black locust is false acacia. Leave out the "false" and then it becomes "acacia."
