There is a tree here in Vancouver that I just love but I do not know what it is. In spring, its leaves are a beautful light green. and in the fall are bunches of red, rosehip or crabapple looking berriers that hang in clusters like sweet cherries do. Can any one identify it? I have a weeping purple beech in my front yard that is a skinny 15 feet high. It has been there about two year. It will someday become a monster in our yard and I want to get rid of it. Would this be of value to anyone out there? Let me know. Ron
Could be a flowering or ornamental crabapple. their fruit is usually small and can occur in clusters. when it is in leaf is an easy time to id the tree. Leaf looks like an apple or pear leaf and is normally slightly shiny on the top.
yeah, the leaves help ID. if very plain leaves, i'd guess as above (jimmyq's suggestion) i think only a few apples (malus) and pears (pyrus) have lobed leaves. and usually when they are juvenile. if the leaves have lobes, check Crataegus. 'hawthorn" "thornapple" http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=mayhaw+|++Crataegus++fruit or http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=sorbus++fruit&sa=N&tab=wi most, if not all, sorbus have lots of leaflets. (they don't grow where i live.) = all are in rosaceae family
