I believe this is a tree that suddenly appeared in the last month. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Black Walnut (Juglans nigra). Probably sown by a squirrel.

It's only going to get bigger. If it's in the wrong place it's best to remove the weed now. I believe walnuts have taproots and will be harder and harder to remove. Walnut trees also secrete an allelotoxin called Juglone which discourages other plants from growing nearby. There are juglone resistant plants but you'll have to do some research.

Thanks, we'll be removing this very soon. It's in a small area near the fence between the garage. Not a good spot for this tree. Now I have an idea why the neoighbors tomatoes didn't do well. They are right on the other side of the fence. j
