This tree was growing in a clearing in a predominately Redwood forest, beside a dry creek at the foothills of Mt Tam, Larkspur, Marin Co. CA (Nth of San Francisco) The berry/fruit I found lying underneath the tree, and I saw them also under a couple of other similar trees, so I assumed they belonged to this species! But maybe not!
