Spreading, vase-like habit typical. In fact, one cultivar is called 'Green Vase'. A zelkova I measured in Enumclaw, WA during 1992 had an average crown spread of 54' when 56' tall.
This looks like a good thread for a photo of a nice Zelkova serrata at the Maritime Museum in Vancouver. I don't know if the Vancouver Heritage Tree Inventory still exists; the photo on that page is from 1982, so 41 years ago. These two photos are from 2012. I like these photos today because the leaves are not yet fully open, making it easier to see the tree structure.
