I have an Italian Prune plum tree and a Chehalis apple tree in a small orchard. There are many other apple and plum trees in the orchard for pollination. But these two have never borne fruit though they were planted 10 years ago. The other trees yield good fruit. Can anyone tell me why some fruit trees never have fruit? What can be done?

    Re: Tree Fruit

Do they bloom but don't develop fruit, or they don't bloom at all?
It is interesting, you know, because I have only one plum tree and it is Italian Prune. It never failed to produce fruit.

It does bloom but not a single fruit all these years. I planted Italian prune because it is supposed to be self fruitful!

I suspect that your tree was mis-labeled. Italian Prune is one of the most reliable plums for fruit production. The tree should bloom later than the Japanese plums in your area and should have leaves that are obviously different. If not, you probably have one of the Japanese plums that do not do well in this climate.

I suspect the same, that it was mis-labeled. May be you could post some pictures of the tree, its leaves and flowers.

I do not think labeling is the problem. I have a Japanese Shiro next to it and it is different. Also, the Chehalis apple was grafted from a tree that does bear apples. Mine does not.
